The idea of writing about your own life and experiences is as old as literature itself. Often, these experiences are the focus of an author’s work, or even provide the impetus to write. But how close can and should literature get to reality? When do personal experiences become art and when do they stand in its way? Is it even possible to draw a clear line between fiction and autofiction? Four outstanding authors come together: Daniela Dröscher (Young Woman with Cat), Bettina Flitner (My Mother), Thomas Melle (House in the Sun) and Feridun Zaimoglu (Son Without a Father). They discuss where literary freedom begins – and ends, who owns a story, and who is allowed to appear in it. An evening about truth and construct, about daring to be open – and about how a person’s own life can become literature. Host: Emily Grunert
