It all starts with the first book. To mark the 75th birthday of Kiepenheuer & Witsch, the publishing house and lit.COLOGNE are hosting a special literary Sunday matinee. It will be a celebration of the legendary debut novels of seven outstanding authors who have helped shaped German-language literature: Helene Hegemann (Axolotl Roadkill), Thomas Hettche (Ludwig Must Die), Christian Kracht (Fiber-Land), Klaus Modick (Moss), Katja Lange-Müller (Kasper Mauser. Cowardice Vis-à-vis A Friend), Leif Randt (Leuchtspielhaus), Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre (Soloalbum). They all talk about new beginnings, new voices, new forms and new perspectives on the world. And together with critic and author Volker Weidermann, we will journey back to those early days in which the literary voices were expressed for the first time and the foundation stones were laid for impressive and very personal works – books which made literary history.
