Close-ups of a woman who’s walking away. With Bodo Kirchhoff
“Jewels of Literature”
After 50 years of marriage, Viktor Goll (known as Vigo), travels to India without his wife Terese. She follows him, full of rage and doubt. And once a person begins to doubt, it is not that easy to stop: On the journey, she begins to reflect on all the time they have spent together. And suddenly she starts questioning whether Vigo is really the man she wants to grow old with. Go or stay? The question suddenly appears unavoidable. When she realizes that she needs to leave Vigo, he decides to fight for her. And he starts writing a novel told from his wife’s viewpoint: their entire shared history.
In his new novel Nahaufnahmen einer Frau, die sich entfernt [“Close-ups of a Woman Who’s Walking Away”], author and German Book Prize winner Bodo Kirchhoff (“Experience”, “Die Liebe in groben Zügen”) explores the difficulty of finding closeness again after a decades-long relationship.
