Roger Willemsen (1955–2016) had a passionate and infinite love affair with books. From his literary estate comes a new release: Liegen Sie bequem? Vom Lesen und von Büchern [“Are You Resting Comfortably? On Reading and Books”], edited by Insa Wilke. In it, Willemsen writes about reading – with sparkling irony, an analytic gaze and, above all, infectious enthusiasm. He pays homage to great authors, makes fun of the book business, formulates “10 rules for readers” and muses about fairytales, obscenities and human rights. This evening with Eva Mattes and Jens Harzer – interspersed with recordings of Willemsen from the lit.COLOGNE archives – is a tribute to all those who read, think and ask questions. It is an invitation to marvel: a celebration of reading, language and insatiable curiosity about the world. And it gives us another chance to encounter Willemsen, a great friend of lit.COLOGNE, as a passionate attorney for literature – witty, shrewd and incredibly human.
