About Jens Harzer
Jens Harzer, born in 1972, completed his acting training at the Otto Falckenberg School of the Performing Arts in Munich. For 16 years starting in 1993, he was part of Dieter Dorn’s ensemble, initially at the Munich Kammerspiele and then at Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel. In addition, he has been a guest performer at venues such as Burgtheater in Vienna, Schaubühne Berlin, Salzburg Festival, Deutsches Theater Berlin and Ruhrtriennale. Since 2009, he has been a permanent ensemble member at Thalia Theater in Hamburg. Some of his important artistic contemporaries are Herbert Achternbusch, Peter Zadek and Martin Kušej, as well as Jan Bosse, Luc Bondy, Andrea Breth and Jürgen Gosch. He has made films with Michael Verhoeven, Hans-Christian Schmid, Tom Tykwer and Wim Wenders, among others. In addition to many other honors and prizes, in 2008 and 2011 he was named Actor of the Year in a survey of critics for the magazine “Theater heute.” Since summer 2019, he is the bearer of the Iffland-Ring, having been named by Bruno Ganz as his successor.
