About Claudia Dathe
Born in 1971, Claudia Dathe studied translation studies (Russian and Polish) and business administration in Leipzig, Pyatigorsk (Russia) and Kraków (Poland). Following longer stints working in Kazakhstan and Ukraine, she coordinated projects on literary translation at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the University of Tübingen from 2009 until 2016. Since March 2016, she has headed the Cultural Advisory Office at the Jena Citizens’ Foundation. She regularly leads European cultural and civil society projects, holds translator workshops and translates literature by Russian and Ukrainian authors, including Andrey Kurkov, Serhiy Zhadan, Ostap Slyvynsky and Yevgenia Belorusets. She has won multiple awards, including the Wilhelm Merton Prize for European Translations 2022.
