OTTO: AN EXTRAORDINARY ARTIST

OTTO WAALKES turns 77 this year – the right age to go on ever-longer journeys of discovery. And because art has been around for much longer and is such a broad field, it is no surprise that there are still masterpieces left to discover. But there is something else Otto has discovered: “Unfortunately most – if not all – of them are missing something essential: the ottifant.” To rectify this, the notorious physical comedian from North Germany has created an expansive series of new works of art in oils, acrylic, watercolor and ink, collected in the book KUNST IN SICHT [“Art In Sight”]. He reinterprets art history with an Otto twist, accompanied by prose and verse. Waalkes talks to his fellow creator, author BERND EILERT, about genius, parody and his great role models.
