Writing about upheaval – Kurt Prödel meets Yade Yasemin Önder
Both authors have won the lit.COLOGNE Debut Prize, both are now publishing their second novels, and both write about major upheavals and decisions in life:
Kurt Prödel’s novel Salto [“Somersault”] tells the story of Marco, whose life after high school is not going as he had hoped: His plans to study medicine are a bust and his relationship with Claire is breaking down. It seems that Marco is spiraling, caught up in TikTok and worries about the future – until his father presents a proposition. In Yade Yasemin Önder’s new novel Anti Müller, the 35-year-old protagonist is left facing the rubble of her failed relationship. For years, her ex-boyfriend ignored her desire to have children. When her Tinder dates fail to provide the desired distraction, she makes a decision: She will fulfill her greatest wish herself. Even if that means becoming a perpetrator. With host Anabelle Assaf, the two authors will speak about writing and their stories.
