Rage, dignity, transformation – Monchi and Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt in conversation
One is a television presenter and author, who has been shaped by his encounters with people who represent the entire spectrum of German lives. The other is a singer, author and antifascist local patriot. When Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt meets Monchi (from the band Feine Sahne Fischfilet), it is an encounter of two different worlds. Against the backdrop of growing rifts in society, these two search for commonalities: conviction, doubt and the responsibility to remain a democrat. From his book The Sun Always Shines – the Clouds Are Not My Fault, Meyer-Burckhardt brings along the character of his grandmother: a woman whose moral compass led her through the dark times of two world wars. Monchi reveals his ambivalent feelings about living in a place where 54% population is already voting for the far-right populist party Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) – and loving his hometown nevertheless. They talk about what it means to be “for” something instead of “against”. Both urge that we stay in conversation when the world gets louder, tougher and more impatient.
