Opening event: Julian Barnes and Robert Habeck on truth and literature. With Frank Arnold

Bei dieser Veranstaltung gibt es entgegen der Angabe im gedruckten Programmheft leider keine Dolmetschung in DGS.

In his latest novel Departure(s), Julian Barnes (“The Sense of an Ending”), who turns 80 in January, looks back on a writer’s life: Which were the important times and why? Or does memory come unstuck from what actually happened and tell its own stories? Storytelling is about making connections, but what is remembered and what is glossed over or made more dramatic? And how does one maintain control? Robert Habeck has also been a lifelong writer, of both fiction and non-fiction (mostly recently “Uphill from Here”). He asks questions about the stories we live and the ones we write. How can one talk about the truth – and what might be true?
An extraordinary encounter between two authors with completely different biographies. Together they will discuss the question of whether we can invent our own lives. German text: Frank Arnold; translation: Sarah King; host: Tobias Rüther
