“Fun doesn’t stop at the garden fence!” Kai Magnus Sting and Stefan Schwarz on the beautiful and beastly side of gardens
Stefan Schwarz has been one of Leipzig’s least successful allotment gardeners for over 20 years. In his series Der kleine Gartenversager [“The Little Gardening Loser”], he tells hilarious tales of his gardening fails and explains why he still finds joy in all the pointless pruning, weeding, watering and plucking. This evening he is joined by cabaret artist Kai Magnus Sting (Hömma, so isset!) – a native of the Ruhr region, which he knows inside out and adores. Sting tells hilarious stories in Ruhr dialect about what makes local gardeners tick. Together, they turn the allotment garden into a mirror of society: From garden gnomes to the constitution, it’s all about East and West, nature and neighbors, democracy at the compost bin, and the essence of being human between hedges and humor. The garden becomes a grand stage for German-to-German interaction – sometimes affectionate, sometimes gossipy, always with a twinkle in the eye. A literary evening with depth and dandelions – and definitely no battles with moles.
