About Ulrich Matthes
Born in Berlin in 1959, Ulrich Matthes started to gain acting experience when he was just a child. His first theater engagements were at the Vereinigte Bühne in Krefeld/Mönchengladbach, Schauspielhaus in Düsseldorf and the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel and Kammerspiele in Munich. Later, Matthes worked at Berliner Schaubühne and at Deutsches Theater in Berlin. He has been a permanent ensemble member at Deutsches Theater since 2004. He has appeared in numerous film and television productions, including “Aimée & Jaguar”, “Downfall” and most recently “2 Freunde”. Moreover, Matthes regularly dubs films and narrates audiobooks. For his reading of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel “Pnin”, he won the 2003 German Audiobook Prize. From 2019 until 2022, Ulrich Matthes was president of the German Film Academy.
