Jakob Martin Strid – The Fantastic Bus
age 6 and up
Desperation in Ahnstarr City. One house after another is being torn down and little Timo is so seriously ill that hope is dwindling. But an old myth tells of the land of Balanka, where the fabled saffron lily grows. This lily is said to have the power to cure all the illnesses in the world. Taku, Spir and Silja have an idea: Why don’t they all simply build a fantastic bus, with 10 wheels, four engines, 18,500 horse power and, of course, a kitchen, bunks and cozy blankets? In it, they’ll be able to cross the bridge to the North Pole, drive through deserts and swamps, tundra and steppe, free Taku’s father and escape from the cruel dictator in the Sad Land. Then, perhaps, they’ll also be able to save little Timo – and even the whole world. Prize-winning Danish author Jakob Martin Strid (“The Incredible Story of the Giant Pear”) talks about his work, and Caroline Frier reads the tale of the wonderfully adventurous road trip.
