Motorcolonia – Jürgen Becker and Martin Stankowski discover car city Cologne
If you ask its residents, Cologne is known for many things: zest for life, the world’s best beer and the feeling of living in the most beautiful city on the Rhine. There is definitely no lack of self-confidence! But there is one thing almost nobody knows about the city: Cologne is an epicenter of motorization. It is where the first four-stroke engine was built in 1876, sparking the automotive revolution that would soon spread around the world. In his illustrated book Motorcolonia, cabaret artist and author Jürgen Becker reveals the stories of the early factories, forgotten motorcycle and bicycle brands and of Citroën, Renault and Toyota on the Rhine. Together with Cologne expert Martin Stankowski, he reveals how this city put the “car” in Carnival.
