Cologne: A Feeling! With Navid Kermani and Henning Krautmacher
Cologne is many things: sacred, carnival-crazy, grubby, laid-back, home to parallel cultures, hospitable, cold-hearted and endearing. It is an ancient city on a great river which takes pride in its composure whilst stumbling from one disaster to the next. As they say in local dialect: Köln ist e Jeföhl! Cologne is a feeling! The new book from Navid Kermani, winner of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, brings together the finest writings about Cologne and its residents. Kermani’s unique powers of observation shine the spotlight on this diverse, multifaceted and incredible city, which is just waiting to be (re-)discovered by its inhabitants, exiles and haters. We are thrilled to have Cologne legend Henning Krautmacher join Kermani to discuss the good and bad sides of the city, and provide some musical accompaniment.
