Your Heaven, My Hell – Kreator frontman Mille Petrozza explains how heavy metal saved his life. With Torsten Groß
Mille Petrozza grew up in the 1970s as the son of a working-class family in the Altenessen neighborhood of Essen. His mother was an East German refugee, his father a miner who came as a guest worker from Calabria. In the melting pot of the Ruhr region, the subcultures of the time collided with structural transformation: the closures of the mines, violence, alcoholism, glue sniffing. And then came heavy metal, smashing right into this world. After a Kiss concert, Mille joined an international grass-roots movement. Heavy metal helped emancipate him from drunken youth gangs. His first guitar gave him super powers. In Your Heaven, My Hell, he tells for the first time the incredible story of his early years and the unplanned rise of a heavy metal clique to become one of the world’s greatest and most celebrated thrash metal bands of all time: Kreator.
