Poe! Bela B Felsenheimer, Katharina Thalbach and Paul Ingendaay on a pioneer of modern literature
Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849) remains a fascinating figure of American literature. The writer, poet and critic conjured up the “The Fall of the House of Usher”, created the modern crime story with tales such as “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” and “The Purloined Letter”, and described a ship’s voyage to hell in “The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket”. Controversial and unappreciated in his own country, Poe was at the forefront of modern literature and became a star in France when his work was translated by Charles Baudelaire. The publishing house Deutsche Taschenbuch Verlag has now completed its five-volume edition of Poe’s works, translated by Andreas Nohl. It is the German equivalent of Baudelaire’s seminal edition and introduces the master of the shadow world between life and death to a new audience. Katharina Thalbach and Bela B Felsenheimer read texts by Edgar Allan Poe. Concept and biographical narration: Paul Ingendaay
