Frank Schätzing, born 1957, is a German author. He worked as a copywriter for international organisations (BMZ, DDB) and co-founded the Cologne-based advertising agency Intevi. At the beginning of the 1990s, he started writing novellas and satires, and in 1995 published the historical novel "Death and the Devil", which became a best-seller first regionally and then nation-wide. In spring 2004, his novel "The Swarm" became an international smash best-seller both nationally and internationally. The book was translated into 27 languages world-wide. His thriller "Die Tyrannei des Schmetterlings" was published in 2018.
