7th and 8th grade
After six years of training, André Wiersig became the first German-speaking open swimmer to swim all of the world’s seven straits. He describes his experiences in such a thrilling and yet down-to-earth manner that it takes your breath away. The IT expert wasn’t actually a competitive athlete when he got the idea to swim the English Channel. It took years of hard training and getting used to icy water temperatures before his body was finally able to take on the challenge. His sense of adventure didn’t save him from near-death experiences and lots of pain, but it rewarded him with wonderful encounters with dolphins, sharks, flying fish and sea lions. Above all, he can explain like no-one else how his long journey prompted him to become an ocean ambassador.
