What inspires the voices of the future? With NRW-Förderpreis winner Yannic Han Biao Federer
He has won accolades and awards for his literary texts, including the Rolf-Dieter Brinkmann fellowship from the City of Cologne, the prize of the Wuppertaler Literature Biennale 2018 and the 3sat prize at the 43rd Festival of German-Language Literature in Klagenfurt. So it comes as no surprise that he can add another honor to this list: the NRW-Förderpreis for literature, a prize for young artists from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Congratulations to author Yannic Han Biao Federer! This prize has been presented since 1957 to exceptionally talented artists who are expected to make important contributions to the arts in the future.
Federer published his “impressively consistent debut novel” (Frankfurter Rundschau) “And Everything is Like Paper Mâché” in 2019. His clever 2022 follow-up, “Tao”, explores “with stylistic and dramatic confidence” (WDR) the complexity of memory, identity and language. This evening, he talks about his texts, his workshop and his sources of inspiration.
