Surely, you jest! Iris Berben and Olli Dittrich read David Foster Wallace
with Iris Berben Olli Dittrich
David Foster Wallace would have turned 60 this year. His name is rarely mentioned without reference to “Infinite Jest”, his literary tour de force. But his essays, published for the first time in German in a single volume entitled Der Spaß an der Sache, are no less impressive. In contrast to his erratic and mold-breaking magnum opus, his essays are fascinatingly precise and accessible texts. His observations on a cruise ship, during a visit to a pornography trade show or at the Maine Lobster Festival are bursting with bitter humor. His essay about the 9/11 attacks is one of the most powerful and intelligent texts ever written about the subject. But Wallace would not be Wallace if he did embellish the real situations with his fantastic imagination, as he always does. Infinite fun for the mind! And great texts call for great narrators: We are so pleased to host the inaugural stage meeting of Iris Berben and Olli Dittrich. Concept: Werner Köhler
