There are autobiographical traces throughout the works of Wolfgang Herrndorf. There is no picture he painted, no cartoon he drew, no book he wrote in which he did not process his experiences since he was a young boy staring out at the sky from his bedroom in the northern German village of Garstedt. Herrndorf’s childhood view of the world accompanied him entire life. Perhaps that was the secret of his great success. It was definitely the secret of his classic “Why We Took the Car”. Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung journalist and author Tobias Rüther (Herrndorf. Eine Biografie) takes us on a journey through the life, pictures and stories of the exceptional artist Wolfgang Herrndorf. Sandra Hüller reads from the works of the author who died far too early but left behind unforgettable stories – including his own.
