Congratulations on winning the Georg Büchner Prize! Emine Sevgi Özdamar on love and suffering while writing
“When writing, you are not alone; all the powers you create, the characters, they also take things into their own hands” (Süddeutsche Zeitung), says Emine Sevgi Özdamar about creating literature. The Georg Büchner Prize, which she won in 2022, described her as “an outstanding author to whom the German language and literature owe new horizons, themes and a highly poetic sound.” In her latest novel, A Space Bounded by Shadows, she takes us from the Ottoman Empire to the Paris theater scene of the 1970s to the present day. This book is a polyphonic hymn of praise to a post-war Europe in which, for a short time, it seemed possible to break down borders with the means of poetry alone. At this lit.COLOGNE event, she will talk about her latest novel, her body of work and her life as a writer.Host: Sabine Scholt
