Colson Whitehead, Jens Harzer and the Nickel Boys

englisch deutsch

He is one of the “greatest authors of today” (Die Welt), whose literary works repeatedly tackle chapters of US history stained by injustice and racism. In his latest novel, Colson Whitehead (“The Underground Railroad”) tells the story of a black teenager named Elwood, growing up in Florida in the 1960s, who dreams of a better future but is brought down by the system. The Nickel Boys is based on a true story. Whitehead had been working on other material, but when Trump was elected, he felt “compelled to make sense of where we were as a country”. Host: Knut Elstermann; German text: Jens Harzer
