The ship will not depart.
It’s time for the next round of the lit.COLOGNE Debut Prize! For the twelfth year in a row we present the spring’s cleverest and most remarkable debuts. The top prize is a silver pig worth €2,222, donated by RheinEnergie. Monika Schärer presents the three nominees: In Wir wissen, wir könnten, und fallen synchron [“We Know, We Could, And We Fall Together”], Yade Önder tells a wild and linguistically masterful tale of a young woman on course to collide with herself and the world. Sven Pfizenmaier’s Draussen feiern die Leute [“Outside They’re Celebrating”] is a clever, rigorous and entertaining portrait of German village life. In Die Molche [“The Newts”], Volker Widmann’s sensitivity and powerful imagery has us diving into past times and the world of his young protagonists. Who’ll be the winner? Which is the spring’s most exciting debut? That’s for you to decide! At the end of the event the audience can vote for their favorite and choose the winner.
