Leïla Slimani, Jasmin Tabatabai and the scent of flowers at night

french | german

Leïla Slimani spends an unusual night at the Punta della Dogana Museum in Venice. In the old Customs House of the Serenissima, where east and west have rubbed shoulders since time began. For the French-Moroccan writer it becomes a symbol of her own story. In Le parfum des fleurs la nuit [The Scent of Flowers at Night], Slimani, alone in the museum, dives into her memories. She writes about her childhood in Rabat, her daily life in Paris as a mother of two, about life between two cultures, and the feeling of foreignness. She thinks about her role as a writer and activist, about urgent societal questions. She admits her own vulnerability. These are fascinating confessions that offer insight into the thoughts of one of the most significant literary voices of our time. Host: Carine Debrabandère; German text: Jasmin Tabatabai
