lit.COLOGNE 2022
Far away. To Germany. A literary journey of discovery with Marleen Lohse and Rufus Beck
What is Germany? Between the champagne bars and the corner pubs, the Autobahn with no speed limit and the missed connecting trains, the vegetarian doner kebabs and the pork knuckle, it appears there is no clear answer to this question. How can you tell the story of a country? Marleen Lohse and Rufus Beck will take you on a journey through Germany and through time. A literary cartography – surveyed and sketched by students from the writing program at the University of Cologne. The coordinates are provided by text snippets from Roger Willemsen’s 2001 book “Deutschlandreise” [“Germany Trip”], supplemented by the students’ observations. What has changed in the past 20 years? How does it feel today to travel through one’s own country? Host Marie-Christine Knop will take us from Berlin-Schöneberg to Cologne’s station square.
