Stadiums are full, viewing figures are good, and yet there’s a widespread feeling that people are tired of soccer. Some spectators are turning away due to the commercialization of the game, people are exasperated by the German national team, and amateur soccer feels it’s been left behind. But what’s actually going wrong? The new president of the German Soccer Association (DFB), Fritz Keller, must find a way to revive his struggling organization. As chairman of VfB Stuttgart, Thomas Hitzlsperger tries to maintain a balance between the romance of soccer and its business side. Sandra Schwedler started out as a fan of FC St. Pauli and today is the only female chair of the board at a German professional club. Philosopher Wolfram Eilenberger not only thinks about soccer; he is also active in the national authors’ team. Christoph Biermann from the soccer magazine 11FREUNDE will guide us through this evening.
