Red is the color of love and the color of aggression. Green stands for hope and nature, yellow for sunshine and cowardice. Colors have a very powerful symbolism, also in literature. And sometimes the names of the colors themselves are pure poetry: Sapphire blue. Bordeaux red. Honey-colored. Mauve. Literature fans from across the country have shown their “true literary colors” to WDR 5 by sharing a favorite book where color plays a role. Or they have accepted our challenge to write a text about the topic. For the WDR 5 Literature Marathon, we are tickled pink to roll out the red carpet to a blue-ribbon program based on these contributions. Strong voices will bring all the colors to life and read a total of 100 passages from these works. Poetry slammers will be writing and performing texts: Patrick Salmen, Luca Swieter and Sascha Thamm have been invited. As always, the literature event will be rounded off by live music as well as illustrators who will produce drawings at the event relating to the 100 books.
