English German

“A brave book about a brave soul” (J.M. Coetzee)

In Girl, Edna O’Brien tells of the fate of one of the girls abducted by Boko Haram. For the project, she conducted extensive research in Nigeria. It is a novel about the subject to which she has dedicated her life: violence against women and their ability to overcome it. O’Brien, born in west Ireland in 1930, became a globally renowned author with her debut novel “Country Girls” in 1960. It was banned by censors in Ireland for being “obscene and indecent”. Host: Susanne Weingarten; German text: Hannelore Hoger
