Born in Lübeck in 1969, Robert Habeck is a politician and author. He has been active with the Green Party since 2002 and was the lead candidate for the Greens in the early state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 2009. From 2009 until 2012, he was the chair of the Greens fraction in the state parliament. From 2012, he was Deputy Premier and Minister for Energy, Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. From 2017 until leaving the post in August 2018, he held a slightly different portfolio in the Ministry of Energy Transition, Agriculture, Environment, Nature and Digitalization. Since January 2018, he has been the co-chair of the Green party in Germany, along with Annalena Baerbock.
