Born in Hamburg in 1971, Jan Wagner published his first collection of poetry, “Trial Drilling in Heaven”, in 2001. He followed that up with “Guericke’s Sparrow” (2004), “Eighteen Pies” (2007), “Australia” (2010), “Owl-Haters in Half-Timbered Barns” (2012) and the collection “Self-portrait with a Swarm of Bees” (2016). His most recent collection of essays, “The Closed Space”, was published in 2017. For his poetry volume “Variations on A Rain Barrel” (2014) he won the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2015 and in 2017 he was awarded the Georg Büchner Prize.
