Joan Didion (*1934) and Truman Capote (1924-1984) are icons of new journalism and subjective and literary reporting. They both authored international best sellers, including his Breakfast at Tiffany’s and In Cold Blood, and her books The Year of Magical Thinking and Blue Nights. They both debunk and evoke the “American dream” in their novels, short stories, essays and screenplays. With blunt openness and brilliant style, mixing fact and fiction, they write about Hollywood and New York, the American South and the West, where they come from, hope and downfall, loss and madness. They write about their own feelings, pain, mourning and failure, as well as happiness and new beginnings. Joan Didion and Truman Capote, glamorous and eccentric, knew each other casually. Here, for the first time, they engage in a dialogue where no word is wasted and each sentence is a stinger. Literature like a dry martini, served by Iris Berben and Gustav Peter Wöhler, mixed by Joachim Hoell.
